I am a Biology Professor at Boston University with an office on the same floor as Jella, though I am in a different group (Cell & Molecular Biology). What I will most remember about Jella is his commanding smile, filled with confidence and positivity. His contribution to the Department of Biology were immense and reflected his grand positivity. I was blessed to hear him play flute on several occasions. As a musician myself, I was so impressed by his skill and admired his commitment to elevating his playing far above amateur status. I was shocked to learn of Jella's passing as his grand presence always suggested to me that he would live forever. I offer my sincerest condolences.
